J's Dowry

IMG_7082

Years ago, J's French grandmother prepared a dowry for each of her grandchildren, to be given to them at the time of their marriage.  J's sister received the largest...since all women should go into a marriage adequately prepared!  However, she also prepared dowries for her two grandsons...according to her, you couldn't trust 'modern women' to prepare their own dowry!  She had excellent foresight...because I certainly didn't bring a trunk filled with linens along with me to Jerusalem!

We were given J's dowry while in Holland.  A beautiful old trunk filled with all kinds of handmade handiwork, bedsheets, tablecloths, kitchen towels, etc.  Some wonderful family heirlooms!

CIMG0099J's grandmother passed away in the fall of 2006, so we were not privileged to receive this gift from her directly.  However, I am thankful for the opportunity I had to meet her during my first trip to Europe with J in December, 2004.

Kim and Jonathan:
What a great gift to receive from Jonathan's Grandmother. It is gift that you can treasure forever. We are also glad that you got to meet her in 2004. This is another good reason for us to visit you in Jerusalem to see these Stockel Family heirlooms.

that's a trunk of treasure to compete with any pirate's stashed loot! How special! i didn't think that these things still happened; that this was created solely with Jonathan and his future wife in mind, not a relic from someone's past but a living gift created intentionally for you both. wonderful.
